FAQs

Got any niggling questions you'd like answered before getting in touch? See if I've answered them below...

WHAT SIZE SHOULD I GET?

This depends somewhat on your budget and where the artwork will go in your home.

The standard is my most popular size, either A4 (to fit a standard A4 frame) or a 20cm x 20cm square (to fit a 10 x 10 inch frame) at £225

This size works well not just for a wall but also for a shelf or a desk, it's a bit more mobile.

My large size is A3 and will fit a standard A3 frame, this can also accommodate more than one dog at £295 for a single animal, and an additional £95 per extra dog

For anything larger (I can work up to A2, A1 and A0 sizes) please get in touch to discuss your requirement but expect it to be in the region of £500-600.

DOES IT COME FRAMED?

No, framing is available on request and I can include it as an option if you’d like it, just bear in mind that there will be an additional charge for the frame and for postage and packaging

IS POSTAGE INCLUDED?

Yes, for all UK &European postal addresses, your order will come wrapped in sturdy packaging Royal Mail special delivery or courier (usually DPD for European destinations)

Additional postage and packaging will be quoted for any framed paintings, at the time of ordering.

WHAT PHOTO SHOULD I USE?

I usually recommend using a favourite photograph, one that represents to you the true character of your pet.

A high-quality head and shoulders photograph where you can clearly see the eyes is ideal. If you would like me to use a professionally taken photograph, please let me know. I will need permission from the photographer to use their picture as a reference.

If you can avoid using photographs with a filter applied that would be helpful. I once had a photo of blue/black dog sent to me that was brown in real life!

And, if you’re not sure, feel free to send a selection and let me choose for you.

I say the better quality the photograph, the better the artwork, but I have been known to work with faded and curled photographs from the seventies of past loved but not forgotten pets. In these instances, I apply a huge dollop of artistic license, I draw on my experience of having painted 100’s of portraits, but there is an element of risk to this. If you’re game, then so am I 😊

HOW DO YOU WORK, DO I GET A CLASSIC PAINTING

I work with mutli media, each artwork is started on paper with pencil, ink then watercolour paint, this I scan into the computer and finish the artwork digitally, using pixels to paint with instead of pigment.

The final artwork is a single edition print (with certificate if requested) produced by the Printspace on archival paper using archival inks.

One of the benefits of this is it means the colour of your artwork will last much longer, I can ship your artwork to you anywhere in the world at anytime (no matter where I am in the world) and I can provide you with a digital copy of your artwork and a licence to reproduce it for personal use.

So, if you'd like it on a mug or a cushion or made into a jigsaw, you can take your file to any trusted print company and have them print for you. (I get asked for this a lot, it's fairly time consuming and not a service I can offer cheaply. I think this is a perfect way for you to get even more value out of your investment)

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE THE FINISHED ARTWORK?

Well this hasn’t happened to me yet, but I think it’s worth talking about. Hopefully, from this website, you’ve seen enough examples of my work to know roughly what to expect.

My style is not photo realist, it leans more toward character expression, but if something isn’t quite right I’ll make small changes until it is, so don’t be afraid to speak up and let me know if a colour is wrong or the look in their eye isn’t quite right and I’ll happily work on it (within reason) until you are happy with it.

Once you’ve accepted the artwork and paid for it I am unable to exchange or refund your order.

DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT?

No, I’ll be honest, it’s additional administration for me and it cuts into my painting time. I like to trust people, although I was a little too trusting (and naive!) when I first started out all those years ago and I had one customer who didn’t pay me!

I learnt my lesson the hard way and now ask for full payment before I send the final artwork to you. Some customers have asked to pay over 2-3 months and I can certainly provide a payment plan option if you would like one.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

I only work on commissions 2-3 times a year, so my waiting list is generally 3 months, the artwork itself will take several hours over the course of a week.

If you need the painting for a specific date, let me know at the time of contacting me and if you’re looking to get one as a Christmas present I’d recommend contacting me as early as August.

I'M BASED IN SPAIN, WHAT WITH BREXIT AND EVERYTHING CAN YOU SHIP TO ME HERE?

Yes I can. Because the final artwork is printed, this can be done from either the UK or my partners in Germany so I can ship to Spain without fear of additional custom charges or postage fees

CAN YOU SHIP WORLDWIDE?

Yes 😊 with delivery taking between 7-14 days after the artwork is completed
